Wareham Rangers U10s v. Hampton Matravers (away)

Wareham U10s travelled to Turlin Moor hoping to secure a place in the quarter finals, a dull and chilly afternoon was warmed by a healthy atmosphere spiced with the reward of a place in the next round. Wareham soaked up early pressure as the crowd started to simmer in response to the high quality fayre both teams were offering up.

As the half progressed Wareham improved and imposed the rhythm of their natural passing game upon the home team. This reaped it's just desserts in due course. However the home team responded and were unfortunate on a couple of occasions.

The second half followed a similar pattern with Warehams passing and possession game paying dividends. Wareham appeared to be in control and comfortable until a penalty award to the home team. The away fans stomachs churned. The away goalkeeper stood firm and with confidence and strong, safe hands pushed the penalty over the bar and to safety.

Hampton threw the kitchen sink at Wareham leaving them susceptible to the counter attack. Wareham prevailed and gorged on the spoils of victory, a place at the table of the quarter final draw.

The reward a feast of football to be had away to Bridport in the quarters.

Each and every Wareham player gave their all and kept their cool in the cauldron like atmosphere (unlike the Coach). Brave play, intelligent play, skilful play, team play, passionate play and winning play were in abundance from all players. Special mention has to go to Zach for his penalty save but the Man of the Match Award this week goes to a young man for his cool, calm and collected display of defensive play which is what we have come to expect and perhaps, sometimes, take for granted from the splendid Jonah Kaplan. A very strong performance Jonah. Well done mate and well done to you all.

Please note at U10 level FA rules prevent me publishing the score in cup games but do allow me to publish the winner. However a little bizarrely, the Dorset County FA have published the score on their website here.

In league games I can do neither.

Well done boys!
