Wareham Rangers U12's Hang on for Gritty Victory

Wareham Rangers U12's travelled eastwards to Ringwood for a morning match.  Wareham started brightly; a free kick from Joe went just wide. Good work down the right by Alfie and Nathan put further pressure on Ringwood. A Dannon corner was hustled in by Luke to give Wareham a deserved 1-0 lead.  Ringwood started to come back strongly with Alfie making a good block and James making the first of a series of good saves. Gabe and Ethan continued to hold the line at the back. Dannon almost caught the Ringwood goalie away from his goal but the ball hit the post.  Soon afterwards, a Dannon corner was deflected in by the Ringwood goalie to make it 2-0 to Wareham. Half time came just after Christian shot narrowly wide from a Joe through ball.

The second half saw a reinvigorated Ringwood and a strangely deflated Wareham. Wareham lost their rhythm and started to play on the back foot. Attacks came mainly though breakaways with Harry continuing to cause Ringwood problems down the left. Wareham failed to track back on a number of occasions, leaving James exposed; eventually this resulted in the inevitable goal as Ringwood continued to attack. The game then entered a very edgy phase. Samuel worked hard on the right and George made an excellent cut-out.  Callum looked dangerous up front with his speed.  Parental blood pressure continued to rise as the time ticked way............... The last five minutes saw continual Ringwood pressure, but great defending from the whole Wareham team. This culminated in James making a match-winning save.  Wareham had a final chance to put the match beyond reach, but a great breakaway effort from Harry went wide. The referee finally blew for full-time to the relief of all (apart from Ringwood!).  Manager Darren Mears commented 'a draw would have been a fair result, but it's always very satisfying grinding out an away win'.
