Wareham Rangers U12’s first match of the season, away at Wool and Winfrith, saw a rather lack-lustre performance despite the promising start of an early goal by Nathan. Although Wareham held the lead for some time, energy levels seemed to drop and Wareham began to struggle against the long-ball style of play of Wool and Winfrith and the long grass of the pitch. The hosts led 2-1 at half-time. Despite some good attacking moves by Wareham, Wool and Winfrith increased their lead to 3-1 before an excellent opportunistic goal by James brought the score back to 3-2. A sterling performance by Luke in goal was not enough to prevent Wool and Winfrith from scoring two more goals. The final score of 5-2 was disappointing; the team did not play to their full potential. Manager Darren Mears commented ‘It was a game of two halves, unfortunately we weren’t very good in either of them’.
